The principle of the covenant of brotherhood and the guardianship (wilāyah) of believers over one another is the origin of forming a united Islamic community. One of the Qur'anic concepts that has caused disagreement among exegetes is the word "wilāyah" (guardianship) of believers over one another. Some commentators have interpreted wilāyah as absolute (unrestricted), while others have considered it as wilāyah of inheritance (tawāruth). From the Qur'anic perspective, wilāyah is not confined to inheritance; rather, it has a broader scope, including wilāyah of inheritance, support, fraternization (mu'ākhāt), security, and the like. The common effect of these aspects is that, while leading to a faith-based community, it also brings about unity, cohesion, and mutual assistance among believers. Part of it pertains to financial matters that have an inheritance dimension, and part pertains to non-financial matters, including worship, intellectual, and behavioral spheres. This research, using an analytical method and relying on exegetical works and the context (siyāq) of the verses, seeks to present the sound opinion. The findings of the study indicate that proving inheritance (tawāruth) does not prevent proving other instances of absolute wilāyah of believers over one another; likewise, the unity of believers in today's world is the key to building a powerful religious front.
